Vocal Rehab sounds scary, but it is really a gift. Singing is an athletic event, just like many other sports. It requires discipline and proper technique to encourage longevity. Overuse or improper use of the voice can cause damage in many forms or simply bad habits that can lead to damage. Singers, professional speakers, cheerleaders, teachers, student body officers and others all have significant demands placed on their voices daily.
Sometimes, injuries happen. Like any sport or athletic activity, there is risk. When you experience a vocal injury, it is not always apparent what exactly the injury is, because you cannot see your voice without special equipment. You can only tell that it sounds differently than it did, or feels a little tense. There is no shame in this. You just need to get the right help.
When Aimee hears something amiss in the voice, she refers her students to a trusted Speech Language Pathologist, Anna Siciliano. She is incredible at what she does. Aimee and Anna have traded students/patients back and forth over the last 10 years. When Aimee hears a problem that is beyond the scope of voice lessons, she refers them to Anna. When Anna is done working with a singer who has finished vocal rehab, she sends them to Aimee to resume working proper technique on their singing voice with voice lessons.
This approach is best for the singer and gives them the tools they need to achieve their vocal goals and get back to singing as soon as possible!
If you suspect you have a vocal injury, feel free to contact Anna first before reaching out for voice lessons. You can let Aimee know you are working with her and let Anna know you would like to work with Aimee when you are done with your vocal rehab. We’ll do all we can to take care of you!
